Aanvullende informatie

Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993 after a thirty-year armed struggle, and the Bank of Eritrea began issuing its first national coinage almost immediately — this 1994 series being among the earliest pieces struck under sovereign authority. The black rhinoceros reverse is notable given that the species had been functionally extinct in Eritrea for decades by the time this coin was struck, making the choice more aspirational than documentary.
