The Special Finance Committee of Mauritius issued this note under British colonial administration during a period when the island had no formal banking institution capable of meeting local credit demand. The Committee was essentially an ad hoc fiscal body, not a bank, which makes its note-issuing function unusual even by colonial standards.
Paul Marion's signature places this squarely within a narrow window of Committee activity. P#1F is among the rarest survivors of the entire Mauritian colonial series — the Committee's issues were short-lived, and most were redeemed or destroyed well before any systematic preservation occurred.
