The Kerman branch of the Buyids operated as a semi-autonomous tributary line under the main Buyid confederation, and by the early eleventh century was caught between the declining Buyid grip on Persia and the rising pressure of the Ghaznavid sultanate pushing westward. Qiwam al-Dawla — whose laqab translates roughly as "Pillar of the State" — struck silver dirhams asserting legitimacy through a title rather than military dominance he did not have.
Album 1583 covers a narrow slice of Kerman Buyid issues that are genuinely scarce in the trade, appearing far less frequently than their Shiraz or Ray counterparts.
