The inner marginal legend in Kufic Arabic script encircles the central panel, while the outer marginal legend carries additional religious or administrative text. Small asterisk or star-shaped ornaments punctuate the border at regular intervals. The coin names the Abbasid caliph and the Saffarid amir 'Amr b. al-Layth as the paramount authority, consistent with standard eastern Islamic dirham typology of the late 3rd century AH. |
