Obverse description Central field contains multiple horizontal lines of Arabic religious legend in Kufic script, arranged within a double linear border forming an inner circle. The shahada opens the inscription, declaring the unity of God, followed by the name of the Qarmatid ruler Ja'far. The mint formula in the outer margin records the striking of this dirham at Filastin (Palestine) in the year 365 AH. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of this period. The overall die layout follows the standard Abbasid-derived format adapted by the Qarmatids for their Syrian issues.
