The central inscription comprises the Shahada and the name of the ruler Husam al-Dawla, arranged in horizontal registers within a plain inner circle. A circular marginal legend runs around the periphery, bearing the mint and date formula recording the coin's striking at Mawsil in the year 397 AH. The surfaces show characteristic die-struck relief typical of early medieval Islamic hammered coinage, with some flatness and die shift consistent with hand-struck production. |
