| Opis awersu | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious and titular legend arranged within a circular inner border, typical of Buyid coinage. The inscription, executed in angular Kufic script, fills the central medallion with several horizontal lines of text. A marginal legend in Arabic script encircles the central field between two concentric borders, bearing additional religious or regnal formulae. The flan is irregular and characteristic of hand-hammered medieval Islamic dirhams, with moderate die centering. |

Fakhr al-Dawla's control over the Jibal region was never entirely secure — he spent much of his reign managing the competing ambitions of his brothers, particularly Mu'ayyid al-Dawla in Isfahan, whose death in 983 had only recently consolidated his position. This dirham, struck at al-Dinavar, comes from that brief window of relative dominance before his own death in 987 left the dynasty's western territories to a regency government under his widow, Sayyida Shirin.
Billon issues of this period reflect the broader debasement plaguing Buyid coinage as silver supplies from the Samanid east grew increasingly disrupted.
