Reverse description Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription in Kufic script, arranged horizontally across the field within a circular inner border, recording the name and titles of the Buyid ruler Fakhr al-Dawla Abu al-Hasan 'Ali. A circumferential marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script runs between the inner and outer borders of the coin. The surface displays characteristic wear and patination consistent with a billon hammered dirham of the late tenth century. The flan edges are irregular, as is typical of hand-struck Islamic silver coinage of this period.
