Obverse description Central field bears a four-line Kufic Arabic religious inscription arranged in horizontal lines within a single inner circle. The shahada legend reads 'There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner,' occupying the upper three lines, with the mint and date formula forming the lower portion. A marginal legend in Arabic script encircles the central inscription between two concentric linear borders, recording the mint name Tilimsan and the Hijri year 179. The die-struck surfaces display the characteristic flat, calligraphic style of early Abbasid-influenced provincial coinage, struck on an irregular flan by the hammered method.
