The national arms appear in the upper left, flanked by the issuer's name in Cyrillic at top centre, with the denomination ЯК ДИРАМ in large Cyrillic lettering at lower right. Ornate traditional Tajik pattern borders frame both vertical edges, and two facsimile signatures with their respective titles appear above the date 1999 at lower centre.

Poznámky	The 1999 Tajikistani diram series was issued as part of the country's second currency reform, replacing the Tajikistani ruble at a rate of 100 rubles to 1 somoni — with the dirams as fractional units. The somoni/diram system had been delayed for years by the civil war that ran from 1992 to 1997, making this issue one of the more politically loaded currency launches of the post-Soviet space. Giesecke & Devrient's Leipzig facility, formerly part of the East German state printing apparatus, became a significant supplier to newly independent Central Asian states through the 1990s.
