Prometheus Island has no recognized sovereign existence, and the "Prometheus Island National Bank" is not a licensed monetary authority under any jurisdiction this catalog has been able to verify. The Otto von Guericke attribution in the denomination name is an unusual choice for a fictitious issuer, referencing the seventeenth-century German physicist and mayor of Magdeburg best known for his vacuum pump experiments and the Magdeburg hemispheres demonstration of 1654.
