Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious legend arranged in horizontal bands within a raised inner circle. The Kalima (Islamic declaration of faith) is inscribed in bold Kufic script across the centre of the flan. A continuous circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs within the outer border, itself defined by a plain raised ring. The coin exhibits the characteristically irregular flan edge of hammered Islamic gold coinage of the period.

Reverse description Central field contains a multi-line Arabic inscription in Kufic script, recording the name and titles of the issuing ruler and, likely, the Abbasid caliph, disposed in horizontal registers within a raised inner circle. A circular marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script surrounds the central area, enclosed between two concentric raised rings. The flan is irregular and slightly wavy at the edges, consistent with hand-struck Yemeni gold dinars of the Ziyadid period. The relief of the lettering is bold and deeply struck.
