The central square contains the Shahada and the ruler's name and title, Abu Faris Musa, Amir al-Muslimin. A circular marginal legend in cursive Arabic script runs around the outer border within a beaded circle, containing the Basmala and a blessing upon the Prophet. The overall design is purely epigraphic, with no figural or geometric ornament, conforming to the austere Islamic numismatic tradition of the western Maghrib. |
