| Reverse description | Reverse of this hammered gold dinar displays a large central square frame enclosing multiple lines of Maghribi Arabic script in the field, citing the Abbasid Caliph's title: al-Imam, Abd Allah, Amir al-Muminin. Below, within the square frame, the mint and date formula reads: struck at Tlemcen (Tilimsan) in the year seven hundred and seventy-eight (AH 778). A circular marginal legend in cursive Arabic script occupies the border area between the square frame and the outer beaded rim. The design is entirely epigraphic, consistent with Marinid and Zayyanid gold coinage of the period. |
