| Obverse description | The obverse features the allegorical figure of Liberty seated facing left upon a rock, her right hand resting on a Union shield inscribed with horizontal lines, and her left hand holding a liberty pole surmounted by a Phrygian cap. No stars appear around the periphery of the field, a distinguishing characteristic of this early issue. The date is incused in the exergue below the central device. The design, engraved by Christian Gobrecht, reflects the neoclassical aesthetic prevalent in early American coinage. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the denomination ONE DIME in two lines within an open wreath composed of olive and laurel branches, tied at the base with a flowing ribbon bow. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery, with the inscription arranged to follow the coin's circular border. The wreath tips are open at the top, framing the denomination in a clean, uncluttered field. A beaded border runs along the inner rim on both obverse and reverse. |
