Obverse description Central field displays the crowned arms of Solothurn — a per fess shield divided horizontally, the upper half bearing decorative scrollwork or cresting and the lower half plain — surmounted by an imperial double-headed eagle with spread wings. The shield is encircled by a beaded inner border, with the Latin legend MONETA SOLODORENS S O running around the periphery in bold Gothic lettering, identifying the coin as currency of Solothurn. The overall design reflects early sixteenth-century Swiss municipal heraldic coinage traditions, with the die work executed in a robust hammered style characteristic of the period.
