Class K deniers from Antioch present one of the more vexing attribution problems in crusader numismatics — the long overlapping reigns of Bohemond III (1163–1201) and his son Bohemond IV (1201–1216) have made definitive assignment to either prince essentially impossible without additional die study. Metcalf's grouping reflects this honestly. The broader date range beginning in 1149 accounts for the possibility that earlier Bohemonds initiated the type.
Antioch's silver coinage drew heavily on Byzantine monetary conventions while the principality navigated near-constant pressure from Nur ad-Din and later Saladin's successors. These deniers circulated in a port economy where Genoese and Byzantine coins passed freely alongside local issues.
