Obverse description Scyphate (concave) flan struck in billon by the hammered technique. Central field displays a stylized imperial crown or helmet surmounting a cross-like monogram composed of interlaced letters, flanked by two crescent or annulet devices in the lower quarters, all contained within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The design is rendered in the characteristic late medieval Milanese denaro style, with bold, somewhat schematic letterforms. The surrounding marginal legend reads IMPERATOR HE RIC, invoking the name and title of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry (VI), interrupted by floral or rosette stops.
