| Obverse description | The Patriarch Gregory di Montelongo depicted enthroned and facing, shown in full frontal view in hierarchical Byzantine style, vested in patriarchal robes and holding a processional cross in his right hand. The figure is flanked by smaller attendant figures on either side, all rendered in low relief typical of 13th-century Italian hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the abbreviated Latin legend distributed around the field. |
