1 Denaro - Filippo Maria Visconti

Filippo Maria Visconti, the last Visconti duke, spent much of his reign conducting wars by proxy — hiring and dismissing condottieri, including Francesco Sforza, who would eventually inherit the duchy through marriage to his illegitimate daughter. The billon denaro was the workhorse of petty Milanese commerce across that entire turbulent stretch, passing through hands that had no interest in dynastic politics and every interest in buying bread.

Crippa's classification places this among the more numerous surviving small denominations of the type, though the thin fabric and poor billon alloy mean truly intact examples are uncommon.
