The eagle, a dynastic emblem of the Holy Roman Empire and Kingdom of Sicily, occupies the majority of the inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend reads + CONR SCDS IERL`S, an abbreviated form of Conradus Secundus Jerosolymitanus, identifying the issuer as Conrad II (Conradin). The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as is typical of mid-thirteenth century hammered billon denari of southern Italy. |

The flan is of irregular shape with a scalloped or wavy edge, consistent with hammered production techniques of the thirteenth-century Sicilian mint. |
