Obverse description Central field displays a stylized Gothic castle or fortified tower motif flanked by turrets, rendered in the rough, flat relief characteristic of 13th-century Sicilian hammered billon coinage. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a beaded or pellet border. The peripheral legend, partially visible and struck unevenly, reads DVCAT APL ET PRC CA (Ducatus Apuliae et Principatus Capuae), identifying the issuer's territorial titles. The flan is irregular and slightly off-center, as is typical of wire-hammered medieval issues. The overall style reflects the Angevin monetary tradition transplanted to southern Italian mints.
