| 表面の説明 | Central device consists of a Phrygian liberty cap inscribed LIBERTAD, set upon a radiating sunburst of alternating long and short rays that fill the entire field. The cap is rendered in high relief with fine detail, its bead-trimmed brim clearly delineated. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the date 1847 appears at the base below the sunburst. A raised rim borders the entire design. |

Colombia's 1847–1848 copper décimos were struck under the government of Nueva Granada, a short-lived republic that existed between the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1831 and the proclamation of the Granadine Confederation in 1858. The Bogotá mint had long resisted copper coinage — silver was the prestige metal of the Andes — and these small-denomination pieces were introduced largely to address the chronic shortage of fractional currency crippling everyday commerce in the interior provinces.
The Hernández reference catalogues two distinct die varieties for this type, distinguished primarily by differences in the lettering punch and border treatment.
