The reform, driven largely by liberal economic factions in Bogotá, was modeled on the French decimal framework and passed in 1847, though actual production lagged by several years as the Medellín and Bogotá mints struggled with new tooling and inconsistent silver supplies from domestic mines. The Medellín mint in particular drew on locally produced Antioquian silver, which periodically caused fineness irregularities across the run.
