Reverse description The reverse of this klippe piedfort presents a bold rampant lion passant guardant within a beaded inner circle, rendered in high relief consistent with the increased weight of a piedfort striking. The lion, facing right with tail raised and forepaws extended, is depicted in the characteristic energetic style of the Dutch Leeuwendaalder type, filling the central field. The circumferential Latin legend CONFIDENS · DNO · NON · MOVETVR · 1639 ✿ encircles the design between the beaded border and the outer rim, with the date 1639 and a floral ornament incorporated into the inscription. The square klippe planchet imparts an irregular, clipped-corner appearance to the otherwise circular struck design, characteristic of presentation or test strikings of this period.
