The shield is surmounted by an imperial crown of elaborate form. The letter P appears to the left and right of the shield, serving as a mint or privy mark. The surrounding Latin legend DOMINVS MIHI ADIVTOR P P — meaning 'The Lord is my helper' — is divided by the shield, running along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan. The engraving is characteristic of the accomplished die-cutting tradition of the Spanish Netherlands mints. |
