| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by an ornate cross fleury with fleur-de-lis terminals, a quatrefoil at the center, and small heraldic lions and crescents positioned in the four angles between the arms of the cross. The date 1586 appears in the upper portion of the field flanking the topmost fleur-de-lis. The surrounding legend, struck in Latin capitals, reads PHS · D · G · HISP · Z · REX · DVX · BRA · 1586, referencing Philip II as King of Spain and Duke of Brabant. The coin was produced by hammering, resulting in a characteristically irregular flan with slightly uneven edges. The overall style reflects the elaborate Flemish Renaissance decorative tradition applied to gold coinage of the Spanish Netherlands. |
