| 背面描述 | A large Scottish thistle in full bloom, its head rendered with bold textured detail and flanked by naturalistic leaves and sepals, occupies the central field. The thistle is surmounted by a Stuart crown and flanked on either side by the royal monogram 'I R' (Iacobus Rex). The whole is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin motto legend — invoking divine protection for the union of the kingdoms — arranged continuously around the periphery between the inner and outer beaded borders. |

The "Thistle Crown" denomination was created specifically for the new Anglo-Scottish union coinage James I ordered immediately after his accession, intended to circulate at equal value in both kingdoms. At five shillings, it filled a gap in the English gold series that had no precedent under the Tudors. The type was short-lived — production essentially ceased after 1605 as the denomination proved awkward in practice, leaving survivors genuinely scarce.
