背面描述 Central device comprises the royal arms of England in a quartered shield, displaying the fleurs-de-lis of France in the first and fourth quarters and the lions passant guardant of England in the second and third quarters, surmounted by an imperial crown. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with a circumscribed Latin legend recording the king's full royal titles running around the outer field. The bold, deeply engraved heraldic devices are typical of the hammered gold coinage produced at the London Mint during the posthumous issue struck under the regency of Edward VI.

附加信息

These posthumous crowns were authorized under Edward VI but continued to bear Henry VIII's name and portrait — a deliberate political fiction maintained by the regency council to project continuity during a minority reign. The debasement that defines this period was already well underway; the .833 fineness here actually represents a partial recovery from the catastrophic lows of Henry's final years, when gold fineness had dropped to .667. Somerset's government was attempting to stabilize the coinage without fully admitting the scale of the preceding damage.

The London mint was the primary — though not sole — producer of this type, with Southwark and Bristol also striking crown-sized gold during the same window.
