| Additional information |
Pobjoy Mint struck this piece for the Isle of Man's long-running lunar series, one of the earliest Western mint programs to systematically follow the Chinese calendar cycle. The 1998 Tiger issue arrived the same year Hong Kong's handover to China was still raw news, which gave the Asian-themed coinage an unusual cultural currency it might not otherwise have carried in British Crown dependency collecting circles.
