| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse features the second-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, a right-facing draped bust designed by Arnold Machin, with the Queen's hair elaborately coiffed and adorned with a tiara or diadem. The legend 'ISLE OF MAN' arcs along the left periphery and 'ELIZABETH II' along the right, both in raised Latin capitals within a finely beaded border. The date '1979' appears in the lower field beneath the truncation of the bust. A small 'PM' privy mark for the Pobjoy Mint is visible just above the date. The portrait is rendered in a refined, naturalistic style characteristic of Machin's celebrated coinage work. |

Struck to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament and one of the oldest continuous legislative assemblies in the world. The 979 AD gathering on Tynwald Hill — a tiered mound at St John's — is accepted as the founding session, though Norse administrative structures on the island almost certainly predate that recorded meeting.
The Manx government issued an unusually broad range of metals for this anniversary program, making the copper-nickel crown the workhorse of the series rather than its centerpiece.
