Additional information

The de Havilland Sea Vixen entered Royal Navy service in 1959 as Britain's first swept-wing, twin-boom carrier jet — and the only British combat aircraft of its era to carry no internal gun armament whatsoever, relying entirely on rockets and missiles. Gibraltar's commemorative series marking Cold War-era naval aviation has produced a number of these crown-sized issues, with the Sea Vixen appearing alongside other Fleet Air Arm types. KM#1459 is struck in the standard copper-nickel circulation format rather than the silver proof versions issued concurrently.
