| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as engraved by Arnold Machin. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and drapery. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper right rim, while ISLE OF MAN arcs along the upper left rim. The date 1980 appears in the lower field beneath the bust, flanked by the Pobjoy Mint mark (PM) to its left. |

Pobjoy Mint struck this crown for the Isle of Man's participation in the 1980 Moscow Olympics — Games famously boycotted by the United States, West Germany, Japan, and roughly 60 other nations in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Isle of Man, as a Crown dependency without independent Olympic representation, had no boycott decision to make. The issue is essentially commemorative rather than tied to any actual athletic participation.
