| 正面描述 | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, engraved by Arnold Machin. The effigy is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and drapery at the truncation. The legend 'ISLE OF MAN' arcs along the left field and 'ELIZABETH II' along the right, both in raised Latin capitals. The date '1983' appears in the lower exergue beneath the portrait. A fine beaded border frames the entire obverse design. |

Struck to mark the bicentennial of the Montgolfier brothers' first crewed flight in November 1783, this issue came from Pobjoy Mint acting on behalf of the Isle of Man — one of several small territories that contracted Pobjoy during the 1980s for commemorative programs the Royal Mint had no interest in producing. The flight itself lasted roughly 25 minutes over Paris, carrying Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes an estimated nine kilometers.
The two Schön references correspond to distinct die varieties, a recurring feature of Pobjoy-produced Isle of Man crowns from this period where minor legend or design modifications were made mid-run without announcement.
