| Reverse description | Central depiction of the ornately decorated Montgolfier hot-air balloon of 1783, shown tethered at ground level on a stepped platform, with mooring poles and stylized trees flanking the scene on either side. The balloon envelope is richly engraved with decorative motifs including sunbursts, garlands, and figural ornament faithful to the original 1783 design. Below the balloon, the inscriptions 'MONTGOLFIER BALLOON' and '1783' appear in the field. The circular legend 'BICENTENARY OF MANNED FLIGHT' arcs across the upper portion of the reverse, with 'ONE CROWN' along the lower arc, all enclosed within a rope and chain border. A small shield appears at the top of the border. |
