| Reverse description | A large, finely detailed Viking longship with full rigging occupies the central field, commemorating the millennium of Tynwald, the Isle of Man's ancient parliament. A coastal settlement with a small church is visible to the lower right, evoking the Manx landscape. The entire design is encircled by a decorative rope or chain border. The legend MILLENNIUM OF TYNWALD arcs across the upper field, while ONE CROWN appears along the lower periphery, each separated by raised dot stops. |

| Additional information |
Tynwald — the parliament of the Isle of Man — claims continuous operation since 979 AD, making it arguably the oldest continuously functioning parliament in the world. The 1979 millennial issue marked exactly one thousand years from that founding, a claim the Manx government has promoted with considerable political enthusiasm, though historians note the documentary record before the 12th century is fragmentary at best.
Pobjoy struck this type for the Isle of Man Treasury during their long exclusive minting contract with the island, which produced an unusually high volume of commemorative crown-sized pieces throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.
