Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population under 300, issues commemorative crowns almost entirely for the collector market — the island has no meaningful retail economy and its coins rarely circulate in any practical sense. The D-Day 70th anniversary provided a crowded field for commemorative issuers in 2014, with dozens of mints and territories producing similar pieces. Gold-plated copper-nickel strikes of this type were produced in quantity and distributed through dealer networks, not through any connection the territory had to the events being commemorated.
