Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic, holds a geographic footnote in the Battle of the Atlantic: its surrounding waters were patrolled as part of the broader effort to suppress German surface raiders and U-boats operating in the South Atlantic from 1939 onward. The island's nearest neighbor in strategic terms was the supply route between the Cape of Good Hope and the UK, which German vessels actively targeted.
