Tristan da Cunha has issued commemorative crowns under British authority since the 1970s, and the island's remote location in the South Atlantic makes it a convenient licensing vehicle for themed issues with no organic connection to the subject matter. The B-26 Marauder was a twin-engine medium bomber notorious early in its service life for an exceptionally high accident rate during training — crews nicknamed it the "Widow Maker" and the "Flying Prostitute" — before modifications and better training procedures rehabilitated its combat record in the Mediterranean and European theaters.
Silver-plated copper-nickel rather than sterling, which places this squarely in the mass-market commemorative category rather than the numismatic one.
