Gunnar Sønsteby was Norway's most decorated resistance fighter of the Second World War, operating under the codename "Kjakan" as part of the Oslo Gang — a Milorg-linked sabotage unit responsible for destroying Nazi forced-labour records and disrupting German occupation infrastructure. The recruitment centre referenced in this coin's title alludes to his early wartime activity connecting young Norwegians to clandestine Allied networks, before he was exfiltrated to Britain for SOE training in 1943.
