Gibraltar has issued Elvis-themed commemoratives before, but this 2024 release adds a physical plectrum — an actual guitar pick — as part of the coin package, a gimmick that has become increasingly common in the novelty commemorative market over the past decade. Gold-plated copper-nickel at this price point is purely a collector's artifact; no serious numismatist considers .9999 plating on base metal a precious-metal holding.
Elvis died in August 1977. Gibraltar's licensing arrangements with Authentic Brands Group, which has controlled the Presley estate's commercial rights since 2013, underpin this and similar issues.
