Obverse description Central field dominated by a patriarchal cross with splayed arms, rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered billon coinage. The cross is enclosed within a raised inner circle, separating it from the surrounding marginal legend. The circumferential Latin legend reads ✠ HIERO • PRIOLI • DVX, identifying Girolamo Priuli as Doge, with a cross pattee serving as the initial mark. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven in thickness, as is typical of mid-sixteenth-century Cypriot hammered issues struck at Nicosia.
