Beschrijving voorzijde Central device depicts the national arms of Nicaragua: an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant rising sun, all within a beaded inner border. The circular legend REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA reads along the upper arc and AMÉRICA CENTRAL along the lower arc, separated by small dots at each side. The entire design is rendered in high relief against a flat field, with the beaded border lending a distinctive decorative frame to the composition.

Aanvullende informatie

Nicaragua's córdoba has been redenominated twice in the twentieth century — once in 1912 when it replaced the peso, and again in 1990 when the gold córdoba replaced the hyperinflationary nuevo córdoba at a rate of five million to one, a direct consequence of the Sandinista government's deficit financing during the Contra war years. The stainless steel issues from Banco Central reflect the post-stabilization monetary order that followed.
