Obverse lettering BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DE EL SALVADOR PAGARÁ AL PORTADOR DE ACUERDO COM EL ARTÍCULO 39 DE SU LEY CONSTITUTIVA 1 UN COLÓN SAN SALVADOR 10 DE MAYO DE 1938

Reverse description Printed in orange, the reverse is centered on a circular intaglio portrait vignette of Christopher Columbus (labeled CRISTOBAL COLON beneath), set within an elaborate guilloche rosette. Large numeral "1" counters appear in guilloche cartouches to either side, while the bank title runs across the top panel and UN COLÓN is inscribed in a decorative tablet at the bottom. The date "San Salvador, 28 de Octubre de 1940" and the printer's imprint "WATERLOW & SONS LIMITED, LONDRES" appear in the lower margin.
