Pietro del Monte served as Grand Master from 1568 to 1572, a tenure dominated by the Order's efforts to rebuild and refortify Malta following the catastrophic Ottoman siege of 1565. The cinquina — a fractional silver denomination — was the workhorse of everyday retail exchange on the island, and del Monte's issues are among the scarcer of the sixteenth-century series, reflecting both his short four-year rule and the financial strain of post-siege reconstruction that consumed the Order's resources.
