This arrangement is a stylized depiction of Vishnupaadam, the sacred feet of Lord Vishnu, rendered in the symbolic idiom of Travancore's Hindu royal tradition. Gouri Lakshmi Bayi ruled Travancore for less than a year — from October 1810 until her death in December 1815 — as regent for her infant nephew, yet coinage was struck in her name throughout a span extending well past her death, continuing under successive regents who retained her types. The Travancore chuckram series is notorious for long-running die continuations that make dating individual strikes nearly impossible without reference to die-state analysis.
