Obverse description Central crescent with a single diamond-shaped pellet positioned above. Below the crescent appear two curved lines accompanied by ten pellets, some of which may fall partially off flan on smaller specimens. This arrangement is a stylized depiction of Vishnupaadam, the sacred feet of Lord Vishnu, rendered in the symbolic idiom of Travancore's Hindu royal tradition. The design is minimal and confined to the small flan, with no legend or inscription present in the field.

Additional information

Gouri Lakshmi Bayi ruled Travancore for less than a year — from October 1810 until her death in December 1815 — as regent for her infant nephew, yet coinage was struck in her name throughout a span extending well past her death, continuing under successive regents who retained her types. The Travancore chuckram series is notorious for long-running die continuations that make dating individual strikes nearly impossible without reference to die-state analysis.
