Korea's 1 Chon was struck during the final years of nominal Korean sovereignty — the Eulsa Treaty of 1905 had already handed Japan control of foreign affairs, and by the time this coin circulated, the Japanese Resident-General effectively ran the government. The series ended abruptly in 1910 with formal annexation, after which Korean coinage ceased entirely and Japanese currency was imposed.
These were minted at the Osaka Mint on Japanese equipment, a quiet administrative detail that underscores how thoroughly the monetary system had already been absorbed before annexation was even declared.
