Descrizione del rovescio	The reverse displays the numeral 1 in a large, bold serif typeface at the centre of the field, with the denomination CENTÉSIMO inscribed in capital letters immediately below. Above the numeral, the word ESSAI appears in smaller raised capital letters, identifying this piece as a pattern or trial strike. The central device is framed by a wreath of laurel and palm branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow, with a small floral rosette at the junction. The design is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with the obverse.

Essai pieces — trial strikes submitted for official approval — were produced in multiple metals before nickel was ultimately rejected in favor of aluminum-bronze for the circulating issue. This piece represents the nickel candidate that lost.
