| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the Guatemalan national coat of arms, comprising a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence declaration date, flanked by two crossed rifles and two crossed swords, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the outer periphery, with the date 1929 positioned in the lower exergue in large numerals. The design is rendered in moderate relief with a beaded inner border. |

Guatemala's 1929 centavo was struck during the long dictatorship of Lázaro Chacón, who had assumed the presidency two years earlier following a contested election. The Philadelphia Mint produced this issue — as it did for many Central American republics lacking domestic minting infrastructure — under contract arrangements that were standard practice for the region through much of the early twentieth century.
